A LIFE DEDICATED TO HELPING INDIVIDUALS ON THEIR HEALTH JOURNEY
Monday February 9th, 2015.
The doctors came into the room and told us the bad news. My dear brother wouldn’t wake up after being in a coma. A heart attack at 21 years old.. my world collapsed.
My dad blacked out next to me. I ran to the bathroom, my first reaction was throwing up. I had never attended a funeral in my life and now I had to attend the funeral of the person I was closest to: my brother.
I fell into a depression and hit rock bottom.
“Allah does not require of any soul more than what it can afford 2:286”
Shortly after this loss, I started fitness. The gym became the only place where I felt lighter. Even if it was just for a moment, my mood improved. It showed me there was still some sense of aliveness inside of me, despite feeling deeply depressed.
Over time, fitness sparked my curiosity about nutrition. I followed that curiosity and decided to study nutrition in Amsterdam, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree. Healing was messy, it took years to feel safe again in my body and mind.
Today I feel mentally and physically healthier than ever, alhamdullilah. I take care of myself, love my family deeply and feel grounded and safe within myself. I now work as a dietitian and health coach.
I believe health is an amanah, a trust from God. Pure food and sunnah routines are part of our faith. With good health, I am able to worship better and show up fully for my family.
